Matthew 1:1-17
The story of Christmas is in many ways the story of the entire Bible. Its context is that God created us for himself, to be in a perfect relationship with him. But our sin has caused brokenness and created an insurmountable distance between us and God. But through the Bible, God promised that, by his grace, “He will be our God, and we will be his people.” At Christmas, we see the fulfillment of this promise in the coming of Jesus Christ, Immanuel, which means “God With Us.” Jesus, the Word become flesh, is with us! He has erased the distance between us and God! Advent is about remembering this and anticipating the hope of his return to dwell with us forever.
